INSTRUCTOR | Karen Divine
DATE | April 20 to 24, 2017 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in Marathon, Texas
CLASS SIZE | limited to 12
TUITION | $1,275.00 (lunches provided)
WORKSHOP | Want to learn to tell stories on your iPhone? Come and learn the app Leonardo, an iPhone app equivalent to Photoshop but much easier, allowing for 20 layers of information. We’ll use each of these layers to add various elements such as background detail, people, shapes, and mysterious and literal objects to create emotion and metaphor, keeping the viewer involved.
In this workshop, we step outside the role of photographer and into that of an artist—pushing the limits of how we see by isolating textures, forms, and shapes. As we set aside the analytical mind and approach imagery using our intuition, we are guided towards the photographs we want to make, using only the iPhone and iPad.
We will review the work of artists who are unencumbered by the world of expectations, who create solely for themselves. Most of all, we learn to be playful, letting intuition take over, allowing your images to evolve. This is a hands-on workshop with shooting assignments and daily critiques.
During these five days, we focus on four apps, Snapseed, Leonardo, Stackables and Hipstamatic. These are all you need to create spectacular composites as well a enhancing a single image.
Pozole welcome party the evening of April 19th. Side trips to Marfa and Alpine during the workshop.
INSTRUCTOR | Karen Divine was first introduced to photography in the early 1970’s and went on to study painting, drawing, and alternative photographic processes. While she finds that creating a beautiful single image is crucial to being a fine-art photographer, it is the multi-image that speaks to her heart. Karen has taught at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Maine Media and Anderson Ranch. She has won numerous awards from many International Organizations, including the 2011 Discovery of the Year Nominee from International Photography Awards, the Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers, the Prix de la Photographie Gold Award, and a first place WPGA Pollux Award. Her first book “A Small Amount of Courage” won the Independent Publishers Award in 2015.
“The world is seen in layers, stacking colors and ideas, shapes and patterns onto each other as if one were walking through their day with blurred vision, not taking in specifics but piecing together various parts and overlapping them, sensing what’s all around us that we sometimes miss when caught in our thoughts. What develops is another realm of existence expressed through tonality, textures and sounds. My work is an attempt to unveil this interaction and represents my personal experience of the world, as all artists do.” Karen Divine, December, 2016
