Join fine artists Susan de Witt and Ray Bidegain for a 2-1/2 day workshop in polymer plate photogravure.  During this introductory workshop you will learn how to take your original photographs and print them using ink (Charbonnel) and an etching press.  Needed materials will be supplied and students will leave the session with one of a kind handmade polymer plate photogravures.

Topics to be covered: 

  • Digital positives – for this introductory class we will be producing digital film positives for the students to make more time for printmaking.  The techniques for making the positives will be covered including a handout and references to help understand the process.
  • Exposing and developing the polymer plates using film positives and an aquatint screen.
  • Inks and materials needed for printmaking
  • Inking and wiping the plates
  • Paper selection
  • Printing the inked plates on a professional etching press.
  • Finishing and presentation of the final prints.
  • As time allows, we will cover different techniques such as Chine Collé, à la Poupée, easy registration for use with multiple plates, and making of diptychs and triptychs.
