WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION | Introductory wet plate workshop. Topics covered will be the wet plate process and its history, the chemistry used and recipes for the chemistry, demonstration of coating a plate, sensitizing, exposing, developing, fixing, finishing and scanning tintypes, and instructions on setting up a wet plate darkroom.
Students will learn image capture using a Holga plastic camera, box cameras or 4×5 camera to create a tintype.
All chemicals and plates are provided, students need to provide a camera with a bulb setting and a cable release. Purchasing recommendations can be made. Any camera other than a Holga will need to be discussed with Gayle in order to determine the plate size. Gayle will also be bringing cameras from her collection to be used in the workshop.
